TAGLESS T-SHIRTS: THE VERDICT

Something I've been meaning to write about is the Hanes tagless t-shirts. In my very first post on this blog I said that it was a great idea since I cut the tags out of my shirts anyway. In theory, it is a great idea; in practice it isn't. This is because Hanes decided to imprint the tag information onto the shirt itself, so when you wear the tagless t-shirt, YOU CAN SEE IT THROUGH THE BACK OF THE SHIRT. So if you, like I do, wear the t-shirt by itself, you can see the imprint through the back. So thusly, you look incredibly stupid and can only wear the t-shirt under another shirt. Imagine! Wearing an undershirt under a shirt!

MUSIC-RELATED THOUGHTS

A couple thoughts on music-related things:

VH1 has this show called Born to Diva where people compete against one another in order to win the prize of becoming a "diva." So, what, they teach people to have a snotty attitude and think they're better than everybody else? Because that's what a diva is. I once saw a story on Aretha Franklin, who demanded that in order to sing she had to have the theatre at a constant 70 degrees. She started singing and suddenly stopped, saying that the room was too cold. The theatre technicians said that it wasn't, until they checked and it was HALF A DEGREE OFF. Half a degree?? That's it??? Now that's diva behavior, and it ain't kosher man! Does VH1 really want to create EVEN MORE divas so they'll eventually have to deal with EVEN MORE inane, freak, superhuman diva abilities like this?

Has anybody heard the new Mary J. Blige song "No More Drama"? It samples the theme from Guiding Light. Yes, Guiding Light--the soap opera. Just when you thought that sampling couldn't get any worse...it does.

*NOTE* I do not watch soap operas, but I've seen them at my grandmother's house--honest!

TO, TOO, AND 2

What's up with the new fad of replacing a To or Too with a 2 in a movie title? I cite Cradle 2 the Grave and 2 Fast 2 Furious. I think that is incredibly lame. Maybe the movie studios think it's clever? I don't know, but it isn't. Cradle 2 the Grave is not even a sequel, so putting a 2 in the title makes absolutely no sense, it's just there because. And in the case of 2 Fast 2 Furious, you're not supposed to start a phrase with a number without writing the number out! It's when they can't follow simple rules of grammar that it gets me...

GRADUATION THOUGHTS

I haven't been posting for the past few days because I was away at a graduation this weekend. It was boring, as far as graduations go, only made better by me cracking wise, like I usually do, and the fact that there were CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS!!! Catherine Keener was there receiving an honorary doctorate, and Lesley Stahl was there handing out an honorary doctorate! I felt like such paparazzi with my digital camera and my video camera. I got some pretty crappy bootleg video of Catherine Keener's acceptance speech if anyone wants it. That was the definite highpoint for me.

But here's a disturbing fact: I saw far too many people that made the major fashion faux-pas of wearing socks with sandals, or pantyhose with open-toed shoes. Don't they realize this looks incredibly LAME? This was a good college, you'd think these people would be smart enough to realize the utter stupidity of this look. The whole reason to be wearing sandals is because it's nice outside and you don't have to wear socks. So to all people who participate in this look, for the love of God, STOP! I just can't take it anymore!
