HUNG UP

This is madness! William Hung, the guy who butchered Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" on American Idol is now famous! And for no reason other than he completely can't sing. He's got websites devoted to him, he's featured on talk shows like Ellen--he's all over the place! Madness!

Heck, if I knew you could be famous for doing something badly, I would've been famous long ago.

RACE TO UNDERSTAND

So I was reading in the newspaper yesterday about the qualifying trials for the Olympic racewalking team. Which begs the question: what exactly qualifies as "racewalking"? There's walking and there's running, and racewalking falls somewhere in between obviously. But where exactly? Is there a mile per hour limit to how fast you can go when racewalking? Because if you're going too fast, then it's considered running. But that's all whole separate type of race. But when you're on the track doing your thing, it's not like you can keep checking a speedometer to keep a steady speed. If someone goes too fast, are they disqualified? If they were running, it'd be cheating. I'm just not sure how the whole thing works. So--many--questions--can't...comprehend...

The whole concept of racewalking eludes me. They're trying to get somewhere as fast as they can, but they're doing it as fast as they can in the slowest way possible (if that made any sense). The whole point of walking is to be leisurely, and if you're trying to walk as fast as you can, you might as well be running. The racewalkers are working as hard as they can to not be running, yet still trying to hurry as much as possible. Totally weird.
